AV News Awards 2017: display innovation finalists

The 2017 edition of the AV News Awards has attracted an outstanding array of entries. Here, we profile those nominations selected as finalists. These eventual Award winner, in the AV Display Innovation of the Year category, will be announced at the AV News Awards Presentation Ceremony on the 7th February 2017 at ISE.

Sharp’s BIG PAD Pro PN-80TC3 is the ultimate, premium model for corporate office meetings and demanding mission-critical collaborative working environments, as well as being used in classrooms and lecture centres for an interactive education experience. With its edge-to-edge glass and impressive 1920×1080 pixels, the PN-80TC3 offers a clean, stylish design while using highly responsive P-CAP 10-point touch technology for a precise response. The PN-80TC3 recognises up to ten points of simultaneous touch contact, with an advanced 220Hz sampling algorithm, providing the ability for up to four people to write on the screen at the same time using sensitive, fast and accurate Sharp smart pens. OLED displays

OLED has taken the world by storm due to its superb image quality, incredible flexibility and high speed content reproduction. It is the only display technology capable of absolute blacks and extremely bright whites and is pencil thin, for the smallest depth footprint on the market. The intensity of the curve ratio means immersive experiences can be created for a variety of applications, from transportation to retail, DOOH and transforming architectural elements into artistic canvases. Internally, the SOC (System on a Chip) method of image generation ensures 5,000 times faster motion picture response time for high speed content reproduction. Enhanced creativity options OLED has made dual sided displays a reality with the ability to easily swap or mirror content on either side via remote control. The panels can also be curved in both convex and concave formations to create high resolution, double-sided multimedia experiences, including immersive tunnel environments, completely customisable to any configuration.

P Series SMART Signage

With the global launch of its P-Series (PHF and PMF models) standalone SMART signage, Samsung Electronics has initiated the transition of its display line-up to a new and more powerful design. The P-Series displays feature the upgraded, fourth-generation Samsung SMART Signage Platform (SSSP 4.0), backed by the Tizen operating system, for stronger and more stable content delivery. This integration, along with the incorporation of a more versatile graphics engine, produces clear, capable content across static and animated formats and gives businesses expanded options to engage customers. A slim-depth (29.9mm) and narrow-bezel (6.9mm) design further drives audience engagement in non-traditional locations.

DME-BC electronic whiteboard

Samsung’s DME-BC electronic white board (e-Board) drives more engaging and hassle-free collaboration in classroom and corporate meeting room environments, and serves as a modern, low-maintenance and higher performing alternative to traditional projector and analog board technologies. The DME-BC e-Board invites real-time multi-user participation by offering up to 10 different touch points at all times. Extensive connectivity synchronizes the display with users’ personal devices, inviting more versatile and flexible content to the conversation. For facilitators, the DME-BC’s all-in-one, pre-assembled design means they simply have to walk in and turn the display on to begin meetings uninterrupted and on time.

Mobile Magic Carpet

Sensory Guru launched the Mobile Magic Carpet – a brilliant app-based mobile interactive projection system that stimulates and engages people of all ages and abilities. This accessible plug-and-play interactive projection system allows variable image sizes and easy set up and control. Users simply move over the projected apps to interact with them. It has a motion capture camera that tracks users as they move over the projected apps. It projects a fully formed image onto a wheelchair tray when used by a single user, as well as offering a huge 3.6 metre image onto the floor when used by groups. Emma Maltby, Head Teacher at St Mary the Virgin – one of the schools that uses the Mobile Magic Carpet, said: “I was seeing the children having to show hand-eye co-ordination and awareness of others. They were having social interaction with each other.  It is a huge tool to use in mainstream education.

This high brightness WUXGA resolution laser-phosphor ProScene projector has 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast and provides 20,000 hours of impressive, virtually maintenance-free operation without the need for lamp or filter replacements.  It is ideal for installations where access is problematic or restrictive and quieter environments, smaller rooms or those with low ceilings due to the fact it has no lamp – so needs less cooling.

SiliconCore Camellia

SiliconCore is constantly rewriting the rules of LED design and manufacture, and was the first to market with a sub 1mm pixel pitch product, the Camellia 0.95mm. Achieving 4K Resolution at just 165” diagonal and with a viewing distance of less than one metre, SiliconCore is extending the benefits of LED display technology to the close proximity market. The incredibly tight pixel pitch was made possible by SiliconCore’s Common Cathode method of driving LEDs, improving energy efficiency by reducing heat for industry leading total cost of ownership.
